You already know that COVID-19 is wreaking havoc medically and economically. But you should also have your guard up when it comes to your social media, your email and information security. Coronavirus presents a prime opportunity for hackers to prey on people’s fears and curiosity, creating malicious websites, emails, attachments and links that could compromise your cyber security.

Protect your practice with these tips from Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

• Be wary of unsolicited emails, especially about COVID-19. Don’t click links or open attachments if you don’t know where they’re coming from.  
• Stick to trusted news and medical sources. Government websites, such as the CDC and usa.gov are the best options for current facts and recommendations regarding coronavirus.
• Never reveal personal or financial information in an email. This is sound advice anytime, but especially during a time when hackers may be posing as charitable organizations.
• Should you donate, verify the charity’s legitimacy first. The Federal Trade Commission has tips on how you can ensure authenticity.
